running out of disk space (reminds me of old times)
I have spent some time trying to figure out why I ran out of space on a new computer with a primary SSD drive. The simple reason is that I have a lot of RAM memory, and Windows 7 automatically makes the paging file as large as the installed memory. Also, a hibernation file (to allow hibernation of the computer) of the same size is created by the system. This means that you lose 2 x installed RAM on your system disk. Normally not a problem with large hard drives and moderate amounts of RAM, but with an SSD drive and lots of RAM memory, you may run into problems. What I did when I eventually figured what was wrong was to 1) reduce the size of the paging file and also distribute over several drives and 2) disable hibernation.
